How The Seasons Work

Seasonal Rotation

Spring

Spring we kick of our season starting to mow our lawns and doing some plantings and or installations. With spring and fall being our main times to do any changes to the landscape which will allow for the plants to have the best opportunity to survive. As we progress through the spring season and everything starts growing it is time to start pruning all that new season over growth.

Summer

Through the hot summer months this is where we continue our grass cuttings for the remainder of the season. As we start sliding into the fall of the year we start to steer our efforts to aerating and seeding. We begin this the month of September through October. Fall is the the time to make sure we get the new grass seed down to replenish the abuse that our yards have gone through throughout the season.

Fall

As the leaves start falling we know that fall is upon us and now is the time To shift to leaf clean up, installations, as well as our fall pruning. Fall and winter is the time to wrap up our pruning and yard clean ups to keep our yards looking clean and neat through the winter months.

Winter

Late winter and early spring is where we do our final left over pruning and clean ups before we put down a fresh layer of mulch and have everything cleaned up and ready to start our mowing again and the cycle continues.

FAQs

  • In order to keep lawn diseases such as brown patch and common insects like chinch bugs and grubs from damaging your grass, your grass needs to be as healthy and strong as possible. When your lawn is regularly mowed, it keeps the blades at the ideal height for photosynthesis and nutrient absorption. It also ensures the grass grows evenly throughout your yard and that the blades are all getting the correct amount of nutrients.

When your grass growth is allowed to go unchecked, it means that it can't be mowed properly. It will have to be mowed by more than one-third of the blade's height and that affects the process of grass getting proper nutrients.

  • Mulching is essential to your landscape during a drought. Mulch will reduce the amount of water that evaporates from your soil, greatly reducing your need to water your plants. Mulch also improves the quality of your soil by breaking up clay that is found here in Virginia. It provides nutrients to sandy soil and improves its ability to hold water. It also helps with insulating the top layer of soil, keeping it cooler in the summer. Your plants will thank you!! Mulch keeps weeds down, and the weeds that do grow are much easier to pull.

  • Landscaping has great benefits, including increasing your home value, beautifying your space, the potential to decrease heating and cooling expenses and potential health benefits.

  • Pruning is a great preventative gardening and lawn care method, and it’s important to carry it out whether you’re working with young or established plants. You’re protecting your environment and curb-appeal as you care for these pieces of your property that could cause trouble if not given their due attention. Pruning also plays into the overall health of a plant. You certainly want to maintain the well-being of your plants, train them to grow properly, improve quality, and even restrict their growth in some cases.

  • Cleaning up leaves helps promote healthy young growth for a recently aerated and seeded yard. Along with protecting your turf from mold and moisture throughout the winter. Also creates a barrier for pest. Insects, pest and of course will add to the curb appeal you’ve worked so hard to achieve.

  • Aeration reduces soil compaction in your yard as well as allowing air flow through your soil. This also helps with reducing thatch which will help prevent against diseases and unwanted pest in your turf. The main reason for this is to allow for optimal gemination of the grass seed spread out so it has a chance to grow and replace the turf that has been damaged or has dies throughout the hot summer season and the abuse from constant cutting. this will allow for a thick healthy turf which is the best defense against weeds and disease in your yard.
